Not necessarily because he lacked skill or potential (at least not when it came to cooking), but rather because had little patience and even less tolerance for being ordered around. Hell, even taking advice could be a challenge for him, given his rebellious nature. Needless to say, he's not particularly pleased with being relegated to the role of Kodachi's assistant (though he was glad they had managed to keep their kitchen relatively flamethrower-free).]

[He said in a deadpan monotone, taking the knife from her. Who did she think he was, some kinda kitchen helper? But fine. She wanted the stuff chopped, he'd do that. It's not like he had anything better to do with his time.

Well, shit. Now that she said that, Ragna had no choice but to put his heart into it, no? Not that he intended to half-ass it or anything, but preparing food for someone was always a little different from cooking just to kill time.
